Welcome to Toastmasters!

This is a quick start guide for the first few things you’ll do as a Toastmaster. For more help, contact a board member or ask the VP of Mentorship to set you up with a mentor.

How to Sign Up for a Role

One of the best ways to get started in Toastmasters is to perform a role in each meeting. Some of the easier roles to get started with are Ah Counter, Grammarian, Jokemaster, and Closing Inspiration. Find role descriptions and scripts here.

To sign up for a role—

  1. Visit www.Easy-Speak.com.

  2. From the side menu, click Next Meeting > View Meeting

  3. Click the “Yes” button next to the role that you would like to choose.

How to Sign Up for a Speech

When you’re ready, sign up for your Icebreaker Speech! The speech signup process involves requesting a speech in Easy Speak and completing the Pathway lesson.

  1. Visit www.Easy-Speak.com.

    1. From the top menu, click My Participation > View My Speech Progress.

    2. From the side menu, click Request a Speech.

    3. Follow the prompts to request your speech. If you don’t yet have a name or intro for your speech, you can enter “TBD.” Find tips on writing a speech introduction here.

Introduction to Pathways

An important part of your Toastmasters experience is to give prepared speeches at some club meetings. Most speeches are 5 – 7 minutes long, and give you an opportunity to gain confidence and improve your speaking skills. Toastmasters International has developed an educational program called Pathways. Encinitas Toastmasters has Keep-it-Simple Speaker (KISS) Pathways guides that offer simple descriptions and tips for each speech project. Visit the members only Pathways page to access this content, which includes:

·      ETM Speech Evaluation Form

·       Pathways Level 1 ETM KISS Guide

·       Pathways Levels 2-5 ETM KISS Guides

·       Pathways tracking sheets

·      Toastmasters Pathways brochures for each project
